FORT WAYNE, Ind.- In a highly anticipated two-game weekend series, the Chicago Cougars Premier squad clashed with their divisional rivals, the Fort Wayne Spacemen, in a hockey spectacle that left fans on the edge of their seats. The battleground was the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where the Cougars squared against a formidable Spacemen squad.


Chicago Cougars Battle Hard Thursday But Fall Short Against Fort Wayne Spacemen in a 5-2 Loss



The Chicago Cougars faced a tough two-game series against our divisional rivals, the Fort Wayne Spacemen, and unfortunately, the Cougars came out on the wrong side of a 5-2 loss in a rollercoaster of a game at The SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.


The first period started with a bang as Coler Crozier put the Cougars ahead just 20 seconds into the game, giving the team hope for a strong start. However, the Spacemen quickly responded in the second period, leveling the score with a goal from Alexis Toussaint.



Nikolay Ouriashev managed to restore the Cougars' lead in the second period, thanks to Trey Henderson and Gerdas Paulauskas, but the third period saw the Spacemen launch a relentless offensive attack. Despite Cameron Boville's commendable 46 saves, Fort Wayne's Tucker Tone, Zander Badger, Ludovick Janvier, and Noah Takitani took control, securing a 5-2 victory.


Penalties plagued Chicago throughout the game, with the Spacemen capitalizing on the power play. Gerdas Paulauskas continued to shine for the Cougars, contributing two assists and maintaining his position as the team's leading scorer.


Chicago Cougars Struggle to Overcome Fort Wayne Spacemen Friday, Suffer a 6-2 Defeat


The following night in Fort Wayne, the Chicago Cougars fought hard but couldn't overcome the determined Fort Wayne Spacemen, falling 6-2 in the second game of the series.



Nikolay Ouriashev opened the scoring for the Cougars in the first period, assisted by Gerdas Paulauskas and Arthur Pawlik. However, the Spacemen quickly responded, setting the tone for the game. Tucker Tone, Alexis Toussaint, and Noah Takitani extended Fort Wayne's lead in the second period, leaving the Cougars struggling to match their intensity.


The game got physical, with both teams trading penalties. Alexander Musyakevych and Nikolay Ouriashev found themselves in the sin bin for the Cougars, while Fort Wayne's Jace Lacey also spent time off the ice due to roughing.



Bennett Pieters faced a barrage of shots, making 33 saves, but the Spacemen's offensive onslaught proved too much. Despite a late goal by Kevin Hanly, the Cougars couldn't overcome the deficit, and Alexis Toussaint sealed Fort Wayne's decisive 6-2 victory.


The loss marked the end of a challenging two-game series against the divisional rivals, with Fort Wayne securing both victories. As the regular season progresses, the Cougars will regroup and focus on bouncing back in future matchups, keeping a close eye on the standings and our postseason aspirations. The rivalry with the Fort Wayne Spacemen will undoubtedly continue to be a key storyline in the Cougars' journey.
